God lives in psilocybin.
Psilocybin is the hallucinogenic chemical in magic mushrooms. The title comes from an experience I had in my room, where I met God. I don't remember what it was that we talked about, but I do remember clearly what he looked like. An orb of white light, or a sphere of missing. Like a vacuum in space perpetually sucking itself deeper and deeper, bathing in the light it had managed to trap that now pleasantly revolved around the center of the sphere.
I started GLIP about 8 months ago, and I had all but finished the first part when I began working full-time at TJMaxx. TJMaxx is a horrible place to work. It's not difficult in any way, it doesn't require me to be creative, it requires me to follow an endless list of unpractical procedures and regulations while performing an array of meaningless tasks. I also started college at ITT Tech, attending night classes after work. On top of this I managed to get myself into a relationship, leaving no time to persue the hobbies I know and love.
The second part of GLIP, the part with the teddy bear, I think was just an excuse for me to throw that track in there. I love that track. I've spent a ridiculous amount of time mixing it. The cartoon following it isn't particularly great, nor does it really match the other two pieces, but I still like it. It gave me a chance to try one of those infamous zoom-out-to-another-solar-system shots I've always wanted to do.
I was away from my computer for a solid six month period where I thought about the cartoon a lot but couldn't work on it. I ended up starting a storyboard when I got an idea for a diner scene where one of the people go through a schizophrenic episode which causes the other people in the diner to turn into robots. I bought some crayons, and colored that shit in. Crayons are amazing.
I put a lot of time into the sound of GLIP. I took a laptop with me outside to record ambient noises for the last scene, and to Ruby Tuesday's in order to grab some restaurant chatter. The first part of GLIP's audio was mixed heavily to give off that flanging effect sound has when in the throws of a hallucinogenic drug.
I took a week off of work to sit down and finish the project. I'm hypoglycemic so whenever I don't eat just the perfect amount of food I get really spaced out and tend to go off on wild tangents of thought I don't particularly care for. Point being it was bothering the shit out of me that I hadn't gotten to work on anything creative for almost a year, so I needed to get this project done.
I hope you enjoyed watching it.
